Houses Bottles - Ingrid Vaca Diez's Ecological Housing

About us
History

My name is Claudia Mejia Molina, I live with my parents Roque Mejia and Maria Jesus Molina. We are 7 brothers and sisters. My little house is very humble because my whole family lives there. We live in two rooms that are falling down; we suffer when it rains because the ceiling licks and water gets in the house and reaches till the bed’s height and humidity makes us sick. A wall is made of mud, another is just plastic and the ceiling is made from an iron material and we put rocks on top for it not to blow with the wind. We don’t have a bathroom and we go to the forest to make our needs.

I sleep with 3 of my brothers, the other 3 in another bed and the others with my parents. When it is cold there is no problem; we keep warm this way, but when it is hot it is uncomfortable because we swept and we stick to each other. Many times we have no food because of the quantity of the members of our family and the salary of my father is not enough.

The testimony of the children and the extreme poverty in which they live is one of the many in this locality of this place we call Alfredo Vaca Diez in Warnes. This is the reason why Ingrid Vaca Diez wanted to lead this project denominated Agro-Eco-Touristic Center. This is a plan to construct houses and ecological, but made from wastes. To demonstrate that this is possible a wall in the nursery located next to Nuestra Señora de Fatima School (which was also made by Ingrid Vaca Diez) is made from wasted 2 lt. plastic bottles.

Extreme Poverty

Actually 100 families in Alfredo Vaca Diez place live in these miserable conditions. They live in houses built with plastics, wood pieces, aluminum pieces and others. Each family has an average of 5 children and all live in a same room of a 20 mts. Size.

It is normal to see the parents, grandparents and children live with chickens, dogs and pigs and this is because they are afraid that these animals will be lost or stolen. But this is not all, they don’t have where to bath or make their necessities. They live among bacteria and this is why they have skin problem and desnutrition.
